“DARE,
YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE”
1989-15
years of success-2004
Hello,
I hope this letter finds everyone well and looking forward to the July
DARE Conference to be held in Grinnell this year.
This year’s conference will be offering once again update
training for those officers who have not yet been certified in the new
curriculum. This will be the
last year this training will be offered at our state conference.
In the future if you need to be certified in the new curriculum,
you will be required to attend a DOT.
If you need this training, be sure to mark the appropriate boxes on
the registration form, making sure to include which day you want to
attend, Sunday or Monday. PHASE
2 ELEMENTARY-up date, this covers curriculum taught to the 5th
and 6th grades. PHASE
2 JR. HIGH/MIDDLE SCHOOL-up date, this covers curriculum taught to the
7th and 8th grades and is for officers who have
currently been certified in Jr. High/Middle school who wish to be
certified in the new curriculum. UPGRADE,
JR. HIGH/MIDDLE SCHOOL-up grade, this
curriculum is being offered to those officers who have never
been certified in the Jr. High/middle school curriculum who wish to be
certified. This is an all day
class.
We
will be having several great presentations this year, one by Eddie
Slowikowski. Eddie is an
excellent motivational speaker who will be giving an interactive
presentation titled “LifeRide”, a life skills curriculum emphasizing
drug and violence prevention. Eddie
has previously “entertained” us at the I.D.A. conference in
Ames
several years ago. His
presentation was outstanding and very well received.
Another outstanding presentation will be given by Chief
Doug
Book
of
the Forest City Police Department. Chief
Book will be talking about his experiences in
New
York
,
post 9-11. He uses slides,
power point, and music for this truly dramatic presentation.
There will be a section regarding school place violence.
This presentation will explain how to enact a school-place violence
plan, with model policy, what officers should look for, intelligence, and
information as well as how to work with your school system.
RESERVATIONS:
I
cannot stress enough the importance of registering early.
The City of
Grinnell
has other activities going on in July and Hotel space will be limited.
I have reserved blocks of rooms at the Country Inn Suites, and
Super 8 Motel. These blocks of
rooms will only be held until JUNE 18. If you do not
have a room reserved by then you probably will not get one.
